No.1 fuse 700 1989

I have an 89 740GL with a very badly burnt No.1 spade fuse holder. I would like to install an in-line fuse holder for this paticular fuse. Problem I have is that there are three wires at the back of this location.

Has anyone done a remote "holder" at this fuse and if so, which wires did you pick to run to the new fuse holder? One connection runs to the FI relay, one is incoming hot and the other I can't tell.

This sure would be simpler than replacing the whole fuse block....too bad it's not two wires behind that fuse.

Thanks in advance.

I did this several yrs ago, but can't remember if I had 2/3 wire. While you do this, take a look at heater/ac fuse(think its 16) Mine was melted also. Fuse 16 issue is in the FAQs under heating/a/c.

On my Green Book master diagram, the other wire goes to the EZK ignition control unit. It shows all wires as being Brown, so after you figure them out, it would be good to label the constant 12V one for wiring in the new fuse holder. Then you can splice the other two together to connect to the "downstream" fuse blade.

In junkyard explorations, I often see overheating signs around that No.1 fuse. A definite trouble point.

Well, It's a success. Thanks for the help. The two wires to the right of the 12V hot are connected. So...if you want to repair the No.1 fuse with a remote fuse holder.. plug the brown center hot wire located in the center of the fuse location to one side of the new fuse holder. Connect the other two brown wires together (one goes to the relay, the other smaller wire to the EZK ignition) and run that single lead to the other side of the holder. Use all appropriate wire sizes and connectors and you're good to go.

I was surprised that those leads are hot 100% of the time...even with the ignition off.
