Warning chime stuck on 200

So, last weekend, I was thrashing around under the dash of an '83 245, replacing the blower motor. All is well, except the car seems to think it has a door open. The dome light doesn't go off, and if you turn on the headlights, the chime begins to sound. I thought that one of the door switches must have failed, but so far have removed them one at a time and the problem remained.

Any ideas? I guess that, if I need to, I can just pull the chime out for the moment.

Well, I don't know how, but I was checking the fuses on my 940 and when I pulled one of them all of the chimes started dinging.

    Have you checked them yet?

    Charley

    you loosened a ground somewhere?
I kinda did this when putting in the pedal block - most grounds for your switches on the driver's side are attached to the Steering column and bracketry.
I sometimes can get a ground to open simply by pulling down on the steering wheel or just bearing down on it... stupid DING!__ DING!___ DING!

When was working on the center console I also noticed a simple misplacement of the Seat Belt Advisory Light's contacts cause a whole slew of DingDing alerts and a light to come on.

      Thanks Tim,

Yeah, possibly I loosened a ground. But instead of a ground missing, it's more like there is something grounding the circuit that shouldn't be.

I noticed that, with the headlight relay removed, the headlights still operate. Is this normal? Would it be possible to crack open the relay and just disable the chime?

Thanks for the replies. I don't think it's the ignition switch. The problem occurs when the headlight switch is turned on.

    Fuses? How so?

Last night, I tested (per Bentley) the #58 wire at the chime relay. This is the wire that gets grounded by the door switches. With all doors closed, it was still showing continuity to ground. I disconnected the driver's door switch. Now #58 no longer shows continuity to ground, but the chime is still activated. This makes me suspect a bad/stuck chime relay.

Hello there,I suppose anything is possible when it comes to car wiring.Maby someone that owned the car before you messed up the wiring.I'm not all that familar with volvo wiring, but I've heard on a few occasions that it can be finicky and weird sometimes.

      Er. Ummm. Well.

      Never mind. ;-)

Looks like you've got it narrowed down to the driver's door connection.

Correction: the #31 wire, not #58. If I pull #31 from the relay connector, the buzzer goes away. So, somewhere the #31 is grounding when it shouldn't be.
