Did I just fix or kill my IAC? 700

I was having a slight yet annoying idle problem. The engine would idle fine in park but when shifting into gear the idle would drop off significantly then recover. It just didn't seem quite right so I just couldn't leave it alone. I decide to clean the iac as per the faq destructions. While I was at it I cleaned the throttle body out as best I could without removing it. I also removed and cleaned up the grounds on the fuel rail. The idle is much better now. BUT now I have a very annoying hum. It is incredibly loud! I have gutted the aibox and when I cover the intake on the airbox, the sound is significantly reduced if not completely gone. When I unplug the iac the sound goes away but the engine dies shortly there after. I tried tapping on the iac with a wooden handle but nothing happens. Should have known not to screw with it when I have to go to work so soon! Any idears?

Oh yeah, It's a 91 745 b230f with the regina system.

Thanks, Marc

Ok, after a test drive, I have definitely fixed something! In fact this is the most significant improvement I have ever made on a vehicle that wasn't broke! Idles perfect! Runs much much better and it was running pretty damn good before this. Hell, I think I even got a little better looking and taller! All is beautiful in the world except for that damned hum. It's about to drive me insane and that's not a long drive at all. Wait, what the hell am I thinkin, it's in walking distance! With the typical B230 noises, the occasional power steering bearing noise(that I've been putting off), brake noise courtesy of the previous owners cheap ass front pads(putting off), the roar of the winter yes WINTER tires on the rear(putting off) etc. and now this I've got a symphony of wrongness going on here. For all that is holy, please PLEASE make the hum go away.

Looks like my weekend is booked. Gonna have to quit procrastinating one of these days. Perhaps tomorrow.

    take care,
    Marc

Very common sound in the regina idle valve when they get very old. If you can find a piece of foam that is very light, you can make a small section that fits into the idle hose hole in the air box. The foam would have that small section and the a much larger section outside, so it will not be socked in. That will silence the humm.
