So like I am in the process of building a wiring harness for my fog lights, and I am looking at the fuse box that Volvo provides under the hood, and I spy this MYSTERY WIRE tucked up under the fender, I pulled it out and had a look at it and see nothing in the area unconnected. It has a number on the connection which is T 688414. Any idea its purpose???? The vehicle is a 1971 142E

    I am gonna answer my own question with a wild guess, I believe the wire is part of the factory wiring harness, that incorporates the fog light wiring through the firewall. Since the fog light accessory was never applied The wire lays in waiting along with the fuse panel. The mentioned MYSTERY WIRE goes through the firewall and leads to nothing but another connector. I am going to use it regardless, relay to fog light switch to headlight switch and so on. Here is the schematic I am using. The Volvo Headlight Switch has different connectors than the one pictured I believe this circuit was used on a 1971 BMW

      do you want the fog lights only on with the headlights? if the fog light switch is hot only when the key is on the lights will go out with the key off. or tie 30 and 86 together and put the switch on 85 the neg side of the coil.
