Okay, I'm going to use the sawed-off 12 gauge on my car- the latest on my possessed 245 conversion project! 200

Okay so here's the latest in my Saga for trying to get this possessed project car that I'm going to break out the sawed-off 12 gauge "wrench" if this

situation doesn't change. First I started out getting ready to check for vacuum leaks on the engine like sdewolfe suggested by starting the engine. I

then loosened the jam nut and the idle speed stop screw & I realized that I had an oil leak from the valve cover because the gasket tore when I removed the

cover to check the cam lobe position earlier. Well I had a spare valve cover gasket so I went ahead and shut down the engine and changed it. Then I went to

start the engine and guess what? No start. Surprise,Surprise. So I removed the #1 spark plug again and checked for spark and of course there's no spark. So I

went to the Bentley manual and did all of the ignition system troubleshooting checks in the book and they told me that the problem was that the Ignition

control unit is bad. So I have 2 spares from my donor cars so I removed the old one and had to switch all 8 of those pesky little sleeves onto the pins to

the replacment unit. After all of that I went ahead and checked spark again and it's good. So while I had the #1 spark plug still out I went ahead and

checked the distributor setting and aligned the rotor to the groove on the distributor housing ensuring that it was also lined up with the #1 spark plug

wire at TDC on the compression stroke. I then tightened the distributor
adjustment bolt. I the tried to start the engine again and still no start. So,

what gives? I've got spark, I've got fuel, I've got air. It's timed right
because as many of you may remember I already reset the timing belt so my

timing should be right. So, this is my final plea. If I don't at least have
this car running in 1 week I'm going to call it SOLD and I'm done with these

cars! I've had it with all of this. I would like to say that I've really appreciated everyones' efforts in helping me with my situation. Thanks for all

of your help, Charles

    Firing sequence? 200

Are the cables in the right firing sequence? 1-3-4-2 clockwise?

Also keep a spare spark plug with you. That way if you are wondering about spark, just unplug the cable and hook it up to the grounded spare. Ie. No need to remove a plug.

Make sure timing marks on pulleys line up with marks on cam cover, idler back plate, crankshaft mark. (Ignore belt markings.)

When the distributor rotor is pointing to plug wire #1 and the #1 piston is at the top, are you sure it is at the top of the compression stroke and not the top of the exhaust stroke?

    Howdy,

Man, I feel your pain. :-(

Is your ignition module is securely grounded?

You are running an orange cap Bosch, not a white cap Chrysler, correct? I just want to make sure I am on the right page.

Intermittent NO START condition. Poor running when it does start. Just restating the obvious.

    *edit*

Here is another place to look for grounds.

    *2nd edit*

If you don't have it already, download the LH Fault Finding manual. It is about 1/2 way down the page here:

    http://www.k-jet.org/documents/greenbooks/200-series/

That will be much easier than me trying to lead you through it. ;-)

Good luck. Every problem has a solution; you have been very patient with this problem. I would hate to see it come for naught.

Hello Shannon, In response, I just wanted to tell you that I know that the ground wires in the second illustration are good, I already looked at them. I

will check the ground in the first illustration later today. I will also download the LH manual and go through that as well. But the thing is I do have

good spark right now. It's raining like cats and dogs right now and the car's outside so I'll have to get to it later. Thanks again, Charles

recomend .308 full metal jacket, right through the block. 200

I completely concur. Just yesterday I finally got my project running. I had the same issues, oil leak, timing not right, etc. With three men, one rug rat and three dogs we finally got her running well.

Worst case scenario, just walk away for a while, I am sure you have another project you can devote some time to.

      Good luck!

      Andrew
