master cylinder 200

Is the life expectancy of the master cylinder about 250k miles?

In the same breath I am replacing the master cylinder on my 84 242 and came across this:
A really long link for an Autozone part that is made by Fenco, a Canadian company, and costs a whopping 35 bucks as compared to the FCP part for 100 dollars.

Thoughts?? Anyone used Fenco? Is it a rebranded ATE?

After some looking on the ATE site I was some how redirected to a VDO website... that that was interesting.

Most likely rebuilt at that price. A master cyclinder is the last place to skimp on quality. I'd go for a new OEM or ATE. I still have the original in my 1990 240 currently at 282K miles.

ok ok, you guys are right don't skimp on the brakes...

The problem I have found with the master cylinder is when bleeding the brakes. get all the air out but you never get a hard pedal.

Thanks to all!

Andrew

Hello,

IMHO, brakes are not an area to try to cheap out on.

Before purchasing make sure you are getting the correct brake master.

There were 2 different masters, 1 with both brake line outlets on the same side and 2nd master with brake line outlets on both sides.
