Power steering pulley misalignment 200

Hi guys,
So the stated pulley - of the power steering pump - is misaligned on my 1991 240 with 188k. Makes the new belt squeal.

The FAQ section says get the bracket from a dealer, the ipd site says get the bushings. Which one is it? Both? I'd like to hear your opinions.

If it makes a difference: the pulley is tilted 'down', i.e. the bending is consistent with the force from the belt.

I would like to avoid getting unnecessary parts, but also having to do this more than once - tons of fun as it may be.

Regarding the procedure: any secret BB wisdom for this? Do I need to drain the fluid or can I just juggle it somehow without? I don't really know where the bushings would go, either, I figure the bracket I would see once I get the bolts loosened.

Again, thanks for your suggestions.
Boerre

The FAQ is for 740, you bend the bracket on a 240 and you either have someone with a really good impact wrench or you want your side in the next bar fight.

I bet if you pull out the accessory bushing under the arm and the front one under the big nut they are deformed.

The AC Compressor can have worn bushings that might just also help put your power steering belt out of line. Oil, pressure, and time are not kind to those old platic bushings.

Actually the worst one on Inga was the one on the Alt under the bracket. After years of oil leaksl, that poor sucker was almost gone.

Good Luck, and may the squeal not be with you.

Paul

My money would be on worn out bushings or worn out bushings and an overtightened belt.
