'92 740 Regina Misfire When Wet 700

Good Evening Folks;
I've been away for a while but now I need some help with my daughter's '92 740 Volvo with the Regina engine management system. It has developed a misfire and stalling condition when raining (even a car wash will set it off). This has been going on for the past few weeks and so far I have replaced the plugs, ignition wires, the cap and rotor and the coil. I ran the diagnostics and it says that the main computer is faulty but I cannot see how the wet conditions can set it off as the computer is inside the car. Now, when she fills the tank and adds some ISO gas line anti-freeze the car runs better. That would point to water in the gas, but again why the misfire only when it is wet? I am tearing out whatever hair I have left.
Regards;
Mike Coleman

      Good Evening Folks;
      Thanks for the advice. The distributor cap is a genuine Bosch part. I have tired the mister water bottle, I'll take another look at tomorrow.
      Regards;
      Mike

    Hi Mike,

    My hunch is that your new distributor cap might be no good.
    Is it some junk from Autozone? Recheck your wires and distributor parts
    use dielectric silicone on the wire ends.

    Hello Mike. You're not alone in having trouble like this. Mine stalled in the rain, almost left me stranded at a gas pump in the rain...Bad missfire after washing etc..I resecured and sealed my cowl/hood seal as well as sealed the washer nozzles to the hood. There is also a washer nozzle check valve right near the distributor that can leak. I got so paranoid about water on my distributor that I cut a small plastic bag to fit over it and secured it with a couple of zip ties. I made sure to just cover the top, sides, and back of the distributor with it as I did not want water to collect inside the bag.
    You can also read a thread to which I also replied to by clicking "Every Post" in the top area near my user name. See the thread "Rain affects starting the car"
    There is also suggestions by other users in the thread.
    I don't know what the trouble code in the computer would be caused by.

    Mark

      Mine did that. It took me awhile to figure out the problem. Reach under you distributor. The bottom Distributor wire might not be on all the way. Make sure it clicks on the distr. real good. What happens is it collects water and can't get rid of it. So it has to be on real good.
