gross fluid in my air intake duct! 200 1988

The subject says it all...

I was cleaning out my air intake and upon the disassembly found a liquid settled in the low bend right before it goes up to the throttle body... it is a light tan ("latte" for all you coffee snobs) color. of course the throttle body was disgustingly dirty and the manifold looks like it needs to soak for a year.

but why did this happen? any ideas?

It's normal, just a little motor oil. 200 1988

That should be motor oil from the breather box. Irritating but also normal, wipe it out with a clean rag. Be sure to check the bottom side of the big hose for splits or cracks. Common problem and you are right there anyway. Some times that gunk can work its way down the hose to the motor that controls the idle air when the throttle body is closed and give you a surging idle. Good idea to clean that out an a pretty regular schedule.

Regards,

Paul

Hi,

The oil vapors arise from the hot engine, then condense in the cool intake hose after shutdown.
