Ceramic pads versus Genuine Volvo, do ceramics eat rotors quicker than conventional 200

I need to order pads all around, and have noticed that the ceramics are close to the price of genuine Volvo pads. I have never used ceramics. My question is, will the ceramic pads wear the rotors out faster than the Volvo pads? Pad life better? I have seen some pads (lifetime, with lots of metal in them?) eat rotors up prematurely.

I don't understand, why not order stock Volvo pads? 200

They have a great reputation for stopping power under most conditions for street use.

It has been the opinion from my freinds that own shops that Yes the Ceramics are tough on Rotors.
I am not doing any Ralley races and I am not Drafting teh cars in front of me so my Brake pads are Semi metallic or Organic . They stop the car fine and I keep Rotors for 250+K miles before replacing. I wash the cars once a week so there is not a brakedust issue for me.

That's the way I handle it.

Get some Akebono ceramics, nice low (almost none, really) dust pad with good bite even cold and a nice progressive and easily modulated pedal action. Not grabby or noisy either. I don't know if they eat rotors or not, but I don't care. Rotors for 240s are cheap!

Well, in theory, the ceramic pads should produce much less dust as they wear more slowly, and that should not be black because the pads are white. Thus, one would think that cermaic pads = less dust.

However, the PBR ceramic pads on my 240 produce more dust than any other pad I have ever used, by far! And it sticks. I can only assume it is iron dust from my rotors being eaten.

Can't prove that they're eating my rotors (well, I haven't tried to prove it) but I know that the ceramic pads cause a TON of brake dust and I am also blaming them for premature lockups in the rear. I (foolishly) have cermaic on the rear and semi-metallic pads on the front. Makes for some tense moments on hard braking. That's my fault. But I don't like the pads.

I very much agree that the PBR's are far too agressive for any factory rotor - I consider it like putting super high Z rated tires on steel warped wheels... You'll lose twice as fast!
