Just purchased my first 960 model, low miles 72,000, drives great but transmission mode "winter" blinks and also instrument cluster arrow blinks. Seems to drive and shift properly, shifter lever seems to have quite of play in it. grateful for any insight, does driving in this state have any concerns?

    Also recommend home flushing the trans. If it is the first time (dark chocolate looking atf) then flush with reg. dino atf and run for 2-3K miles then re-flush with synthetic atf.

      thanks for your info, at the cost of appearing ignorant, so be it, i cannot find a dipstick or instructions on where to check the atf.

        In the engine compartment, on the driver's side of the transmission, down low, you will see a yellow plastic piece sticking out of the dipstick tube (it might be covered with dirt or grease). You will need to stick the squared end of a 1/2" socket extension (I use several extensions stuck together to give me the length I need) into the squared end of the yellow diptstick. Twist it 45 degrees and pull it up carefully. It takes a little practice at first but it is really easy after you get the hang of it.

        If it's really dirty and you want to clean it off first, you can jack up the front of the car and access it from below and behind the driver's side tire to clean it off.

    See the 700/900 FAQ for more information on this. It's likely a bad gear position sensor switch, although I suppose if the shifter is loose, there could be another problem (or one problem is causing another). There is a link within the FAQ to the blinking issues you're having. Similar issues are common, and covered in detail. It is important to also get the transmission error code, as it will assist in diagnosing the problem.
