1 2 3 Fault in signal to/from coooant temperature sensor 200 1992

Fault in signal to/from coolant temperature sensor

Replaced sensor (Bosch number 0 280 130 026)
replaced connector to sensor
replaced ECU 0 280 000 561 with 0 280 000 591
The resistance from pin 13 on the ECU conector to pin 2 on the IG module is 2,715 at 70 degrees F. and drops down to approximately 284 ohms at operating temperature.

I still have a check engine light ( which can be cleared however returns with in a few minutes with the 1 2 3 code).

I did not replace the Ing. module 0 227 400 169

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Dave

You have the wrong temp sensor for a '92 200 1992

"Replaced sensor (Bosch number 0 280 130 026)"

No wonder the CEL. That one is for earlier (LH 2.2) FI systems.

You need the black top 0 280 130 032.

The blue 026 is a single element sensor, with one pin for sensing and the other going to ground.

The 032 is dual element, one pin for FI ECU and one for Ignition CU, both elements grounded internal to sensor body and engine.

Here it is at FCP Groton (good price, same Bosch OE is about $45)

I had this problem when my car was only 3 or 4 years old.

The car came from the factory with a cold joint in the wiring harness.

The splice is in the location between the #2 and #3 fuel injector. You can access this harness from the top of the engine you will need to cut back the black plastic sheath and then use a soldering gun to solder this.

The faulty connection is not held together with the typical silver color solder, its more like it has been pressed together.

I learned this from the manager of my local Volvo dealership. After I did this, I didn't have any further problems.

Good Luck.

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 259K looking forward to 300K badge (or sticker??). >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
