'89 245--Passenger side rear spring removal?? 200

Tried to remove rear overload springs today following Bentley procedure, but not enough room to get spring out past the exhaust. Not sure I wanted to try moving the exhaust. Don't want to mess with spring compressors. What's the trick? Can you "screw" the spring down along the trailing arm just enough for the top to clear, then back up and out?
Thanks.

That's what I did when I replaced my springs. Kinda Screwed it down and new one up. Also . If I remember correctly, I unbolted the small little metal chunk that sits on the rear Caliper. NO fluid issues with taking this off. It's the piece I use to leverage the Brake pins back in.

I used a couple of ratchet straps to compress the overload springs when I installed mine.

I un-hooked the exhaust hangers. It gave me just enough wiggle room to do the job. I can't wait until I get my over-axle exhaust on (this weekend probably). No more fighting with the exhaust when I do rear-end work.
