Possible water pump issue?? 200

hello all ...i have an 87 245 that shortly after replacing the blower motor I started hearing some screeching noises bye the radiator cooling fan. also during the time i noteced that the water temp level is registering less then 1 quarter up the gauge. Could this be the waterpump issue? I still get heat from the defrost/heat....thanks to a new blower motor. On seldom occasions the water temp indicator does regester normal (half way point on the gauge) but this is maybe only 10% of the time. I have had the car for about 7 months and i dont believe it has been maintained very well. I did have to replace distributor cap and rotor. it was worn to the point it was barely making contact. but anyway back to the water temp issue. is it possible the gauge is not working correctly? I did have to remove the cluster panel to replace the blower motor and i think i put everything back into place like it should be. anyway any help/comments would be appreciated.

I agree with Phil. Change the thermostat. I've found that it's best to go with Volvo thermostats. I once bought an aftermarket one and had to change it after about a year. Volvo ones last ~5 years.

Just change the thermostat. They go bad that way. Which is the best way.

You could have loose belts that caused the noise. Try turning things by hand. It shouldn't be very easy to spin the alternator pulley. Push down half way between the pulleys with moderate pressure to see if the belt flexes about the thickness of the belts.

You could remove them. Then check the water pump bearings for roughness or excessive play. Its rare that they lock up with out a lot of prior warning.

Depends on which one bothers you the most. A gauge in front of you or the pump out in front of you?

Decisions, aren't they wonderful!

Phil
