760 turbo diagnosis correct? 700

I have had a problem with my 87 760 turbo for about 3 weeks now. It seems to struggle to get going and has no power, seems to be missing s cylinder off and on. I took it to the shop for a diagnosis and he tells me it has the wrong brand of plugs and one of the plug wires is broken. When this problem started, we changed the plugs, cap and rotor, replaced the fpr and the fuel pump. Nothing seemed to make a difference. The plugs that we replaced had been there for a few thousand miles and were there when the problem started. So, that leaves the problem belonging solely to an instantaneous broken wire? Any input on this I would appreciate.

When I went to pick the car up, they had taped the plug wire together because it had split in two when they pulled it off to check it. So I replaced them with bougicord and all is fine now. Must have been broken and they just finished it off. Bob

I had a similiar problem w/ my 91 940 turbo wgn. I had an intermitant loss of power. When it kicked in it wouldn't get out of its own way. Never stayed for long just enough to annoy. Finally it did it long enough & I found one injector not spraying properly. I did the real injector cleaning (you run the car on the cleaner via a pressurized cyl. Problem was cured for a couple of monthes. When it started again I swapped the injector.

You can pull the injector rail & see the FAQ for cleaning injectors. Follow the setup so you don't cook an injector. If one is bad you spot it right away.

Good luck.

PS I ran Bosch platinums for 30,000km w/ no problems.

Personally, I like Bosch plug wires better than Bougicord. Go to www.stepbystepvolvo.com and click on "Real Life Volvo Quiz." Might help your situation.

what brand of plugs did you replace with what brand? and no platinums allowed. yes, tugging on a plug wire while changing plugs can finish breaking a wire that's old and brittle. again, what brand of wires? no bosch wires allowed. had too many sets bad out of the box. oe or bougicord only. cap and rotor? bosch or bremi only. lotsa cheap stuff out there that fits cars but don't work like they should. i've fixed alot of cars that run poor by replacing stuff with real parts. good luck, chuck.

Maybe a bad slug of fuel?
