Instrument Cluster bulb question

Am I correct in assuming that the old style black base $1 bulbs will not fit in a '91 that came with the brown base $15 bulbs?

$15 seems like a ridiculous price for an instrument cluster bulb.

There's a recent thread expressing the same sentiment, I think: Question about pre-1986 light bulbs for 240 instrument clusters (photo request)

Unfortunately no slick pop-in answer. $15 really? Last I looked they were $8 but that was a couple years ago.

I kept looking and found it at IPD for $9.95. My usual supplier was higher priced on this part.
