New Look For Your Aging Bumpers !! 700

I've had great success "painting" my front bunper with.......Kiwi black leather scoff cover!!!!!Available at your favorite grocery store for under 5 bucks!!!..it degrades much slower than Back to Black and such!!!. I remove the foam applicator and use a one inch fine bristle paint brush . Prepare surface by washing thoroughly, then clean with alcohol. After car washes I do not use armor all and like protectants as this sort of suppresses the next application. The results are stunning!!! BTW my rear bumper cover still looks great so I dont paint it!!!

I discovered this myself several months ago. Thing is, its not permanent. At least not in my experience. I began to notice it fade in streaks. Not real bad mind you but noticeable all the same. It turns out to be a semi-permanent coating in the end. I figured that if I were to touch it up every few months I would end up with a thick coating that would peel and look even worse than the old-faded bumper.

If I were you I would spend the money and get some of that spray paint that body shops use. I can't think of the name of it now but it is way better than krylon, rustoleum or other common store brands. Not cheap. I spend about $18/can at a nearby auto body paint store. Of course now you'll have to spend the extra effort in removing the shoe polish before applying it.

I painted my front bumper back in 2005, I think, and it stayed evenly black for about 2 1/2 to 3 years before it began to get loused up by the notorious Florida Love Bugs. There is a FAQ article/write up on what to use and how to do it. Under Body: Care, Paint, Waxes, etc.

Not hard, takes a weekend afternoon, and looks great when done. Maybe the paint could be even longer lasting with better prep and paint than I used.

How long has it been holding up?

I've got to give some cosmetic lovin' to our 740's bumpers.

...Of course I've still got to put the front suspension back together again. :-)

    Thanks!

Would you be able to post pictures with some close ups in the light? Sounds good for $5 or less. I wouldn't mind trying it out.

    Thanks

    My bumpers are grey.

Are they supposed to be black?

    Thanks

Are you sure that the bumpers are supposed to be grey? The owner's manual for my car, a 1991, shows black bumpers on the car on the cover. And my 1991 740 Turbo wagon has the SE package, which means black trim, no chrome anywhere, and black bumpers sure make more sense with that than grey ones do. Besides, the underside, where they are not oxidized, is still black.
