95 960, purple plastic hose in engine compartment, identification 900

All,
I apologize in advance for being vague. There is a thin plastic purple hose that comes up from the bottom right side of the engine, has a clip that attaches to a coolant hose, and then runs over the top of the engine to the other side, into a circle-shaped rubber thing, which has attached to two silver pipes coming off of it. Anyway, the plastic purple hose is cracked, and I'm trying to figure out what it does, and how to replace it! I didn't see anything like it on FCP groton. The rubber piece it attaches to at the end is also frayed. Thanks in advance,

-kbodi

You underestimate the volvo dealer! I think it came to $8 total, including the rubber fittings on the end (both were somewhat worn). Thanks for your help.

Yes, that's very helpful. It made more sense to me when I realized I could just pop off the vacuum hose itself from both sides. I was a little worried when I saw that I couldn't get the part from fcp groton, but if it's something that the dealer can provide cheaply, then that's great.

Surprisingly, I believe it's been broken for a while, and the car hasn't had any (real) problems. I'll check the OBD codes and see if anything has been flagged that isn't triggering a check engine light though. Thanks!

I think it connects from the intake manifold to a pipe to the air pump. Its just a vacuum line.

There is a vacuum hose that comes off of the intake that goes to an electrical
solinoid switch thats mounted on the drivers side fender--from that soliniod there is another vacuum point that the purple tube hooks too--from there it goes over the engine to the vacuum control valve on the passengers side and that operates the secondary air system--this is an emmison control system and should have thrown a code telling you it wasn't operating. The seconday system comes on when you first start the car when its been sitting for a while or when the engine is cold.
Hope that helps
