engine cutting out 900 1995

I have a 1995 940 turbo wagon.

After washing down the engine compartment, the engine started sputtering a little. I drove it around the block and all seemed fine until I turned left. The engine sputtered then died. Starts right back up and runs fine until turning left again. This was late yesterday PM. I drove to work and back today with similar problem. I pulled the distributor cap and virtually no moisture was found. I toweled it off and reinstalled it. A mechanic friend suggested leaving the hood open to let any moisture have a better chance to evaporate. So it's sitting in the driveway drying off right now.

Forgot to mention that this happened about a month ago after cleaning the engine compartment, just never died back then.

Any ideas on troubleshooting this (other than quit spraying water under the hood) would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pritchard

I found and fixed the problem. The seal around the air flow sensor on top of the breather box had a leak. I took the cover off of the sensor and poured out about a teaspoonful of water. Every time I turned, water would slosh across the terminals and kill the engine. Now I have a check engine light that came on during the hunt for the moisture problem. I will check the FAQ section for some info. Thanks for your input.

    Pritchard,

I'm not sure I got the time line correct from your post,

("Forgot to mention that this happened about a month ago after cleaning the engine compartment, just never died back then."),

but if you washed it a month ago, and now the trouble starts, I would not think the washing was the problem.

apart from only making right hand turns until it dries out not much you can do.
if you can find a heated garage it will dry faster.

Thanks guys. I read through some of the FAQ and found another who had similar symptoms. It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. I'm going to wait and keep my fingers crossed that it is a moisture problem.

It's hard to make a getaway when you can only turn right. I hope it dries out soon.
