I gotta quit going by junkyards or I am going to die! 200

Still looking for a seat bottom for the old 86 245DL. Stopped by a yard that had a white 245 wagon and looked at the seat. Found a good seat bottom but the guy wants me to buy the whole interior. I hate tan, the leather is rougher than a lady of the evening at church, and I just need a seat bottom.

Walking out I see a red block engine, with this huge DOHC with the word Volvo on the cover with a turbo just sitting there. The mind raced, what I could do with that engine. Rebuild it, get the Turbo overhauled, get a new inter- cooler, and so on. Put that in Inga and have a blast doing it. Your fault fellow BB'er that I even recognize a engine like that. Was thinking how I would use the "look what followed me home " line. This is like the sirens calling sailors to a sure death on the rocks.

I would die a sudden death if that was gotten this close to Christmas, this soon after going $260 over budget (left the Hydras) on my Inga upgrade. Still have to put the poly bushings in the rear. Now that I have greatly improved the sound level in the front. All you hear is noise from under the back now.

That would be a really fun project. Maybe after retirement, no wait 25% of that is gone with wind, I may have to work until I am 80 at this rate.

Oh well, one can dream.....Turbo, Double Cams......

Regards,

Paul

Oy. To drool for absolutely....

Just remember that we never got a turbo B234 here in the US.... which means that one was something someone cobbled together, and those folks don't junk such hardware unless it had become a permanent lawn ornament. The exhaust manifold would have been worth the grab, though. :-)

"Fortunately", no P&P's near me with Volvo's, so I avoid that temptation.

Hi Paul,

We all have dreams--and I just experienced a similar "what am I doing/she's gonna kill me/where can I stash this stuff" millisecond of regret last weekend at the local pick 'n pull.

What are you looking for seat-wise? I have a reasonable seat bottom cover (no tears, etc.) in blue vinyl if that helps--it was a pax side seat, but the bottom cover works with either seat IIRC. I have the matching back rest cover (also pax side). I may have a few other seat parts too (some blue velour stuff a la turbo), maybe a seat cushion (I'll have to look) . . . .

Price = free + cost of shipping--email me for additional info.

Best,

Steve A-

Paul,

I haven't been to the yards in a long time...but I really need to go. Have a list of lots of little things. Which yards have the best supply of Volvos. I used to to hit the PnP on Northville and occasionally the one on Wallisville. Are they still "the one's"? Are there any others you would recommend.

I could not imagine how much space I would need if I brought home all the cars I have seen at the yards that needed to be rescued. The most painful sight is when you see real classics like a BMW 2002 or an MGB (with the chrome bumpers). I remember going to a yard several years ago that had several less than ten year old BMWs and Volkswagens. None of them had any physical damage and interiors had normal wear. Should have saved them all. Sigh.

As far as PUP there are three I know of.

There is one in Pasadena on 2133 Shaver St 713-477-7670.

The last couple of weeks the choices have been a bit slim. Nothing newer than a 85 at either West Road or in Wallisville. The Pasadena one for the first time ever did not have a 240. But they run in Cycles and the next time you go there can be five or six.

I have had the most luck at the Wallisville Road yard over all.

There are a lot of Non-PUP off Shepard and you just have to walk in and ask if they have any.

Good Luck,

Paul

At least you guys have a junkyard with Volvo's. Must be nice.

think thats bad let me tell you my little greed/heart attack story 200

there is a smaller junkyard not far from me which runs a deal every saturday. $40 dollars will buy you EVERYTHING you can personally remove from any car or combo of cars and personally physically carry out of the yard.

no dragging, no help.

do you have any idea what that offer is to a hard core junkyard dog (or should i say 'pig') like me?

suffice it say i go often. the only trouble is the yard is at the bottom of longish hill and the office is at the top. they have 240's, and 940's...my rides of choice.

a few times while mimmicing a farm animal i have felt like i was having a heart attack lugging my prizes up that hill....both arms with bags full, shoulder bending under the weight really heavy parts....like exahust header with manifold or cylinder heads....etc

i am near 60 and this is killing me.

i am not sure if i will out last the cars i am slowly stripping. thus far the only 5 items i have not attempted to haul out of there are the short block, transmission, axle, seats and door.

Boy, I know how you feel. Your heart shows in your post.

Isn't it tough to see those good parts here and there, going to waste?

We are burdened, yes burdened with this awareness that people would say is a fetish. Maybe its a disease?

We walk the aisle of the cars and feel those depleted hours of a many mens work.
Looking for that part thats not so bad, when compared to mine. It is a gem, hiding, waiting for that person to give it another ride down the road.

I'm sorry too!

We can't save them all. I don't drink beer but I just have another soda. Then I recycle the containers!

Time and the tides for sailors.

Wait and wait, till it passes. Everything passes!

In the hills of Pa we still have junkyards that produce Bricks, but you have to drive over the river and through the woods to find them now. We are running out of years, my friends. My suggestion to Paul is to haul that baby home, take the heat, and begin the rebuild. When he expires in another five decades, he will be a man rich in treasures and we will rename the DOHC a 401K in his honor. In the meantime, does anybody have a P/S cap for a 91 240, the kind with the reservoir attached to it?
