Temperature Compensation Board, &c. 200 1987

Hello,

I have a quick question about bypassing the temperature compensation board on the 86+ 200's. My gauge has been quite screwy lately and I thought maybe I better try this fix. After doing it, the needle now climbs to just shy of the red zone immediately (within seconds), even after the car has been parked all night. My question is, should I have removed the board entirely after jumping the terminals 1 and three? I gathered from the photos that it was to be put back in place after jumping the two terminals...but maybe not? If I have in fact done this correctly, my next suspicion would probably be the sender (I have swapped out a couple of actual temperature gauges already to no avail). I just thought I'd ask before I tear into the motor...

Thanks to anyone in advance!!

That answered my question 200 1987

I was wondering what affect it would have to leave the board in...you answered it. When I took the board out of my car, I jumped it from the Back of the Cluster. It is so much easier to access the Pins.
I have been wondering if everyone could save time by just taking the cluster out of the car and jumping it from the back without taking the cluster apart.

Yes, the board needs to be removed and not replaced.

Remove the board, install the jumper and reasseble.

Yes. The board does not go back in the cluster after the bypass.

Thanks. I could not find the IPD instructions everyone was talking about, but that does make good sense. I was thinking at the time that maybe the board being removed would render some other instrument/light useless. Thanks for the help. I'll go try that!

After removing my TCB last week as per instructions, the gauge now works exactly as I always thought it should have, but didn't! It doesn't move up until the engine begins to warm, it moves up exactly as the engine warms to the point when hottest, the thermostat opens, and then it goes back down stabilizing at exactly the midpoint, and it stays there!

Why did Volvo put the board in there? 88/240/47
