I've seen a couple posts about fixing the blower, so I did... I have one quick question though. 120-130

So,
Winters coming and I decided to fix my blower.
Last night i took it out, cleaned and lubed it.
I installed it again and its making a wierd noise.
It turns but sounds like something is in the way, and there isn't anything there.
It didnt sound like this before I put it in (I tested it while it was out).
I've never had a 122 with a working fan, is this how it's supposted to sound?

    Howdy,

It isn't supposed to make contact noises; only blowing noises. ;-)

It sounds like the shaft might be a bit eccentric and is touching the housing. You may have to loosen the motor and shift it around a bit to see if you can find the spot where it doesn't contact anything.

      Foreign Objects? 120-130

It's not uncommon to find small sticks, pine needles, and leaves sitting on top of the heater core inside the heater box. You might be hitting some debris.

You can energize and spin the blower w/o installing it, so try that before you install it in the box and see if you can see where the problem is.

I cleaned the whole heater core area.
Before mounting, I pulled the switch and it spun fine.
Tomorrow, I'll try to reposition it.
        Thanks guys!

Found something that disturbed me. 120-130

          Yesterday,
I took the fan out, repositioned it. Still made a noise.
Today turned the fan on, it blew amazing and quiet.
10 seconds later, it made the same griding noise and slowed down.
Then, I turned it on again, blew nice, then went down again.

After a few times, it finally shut off and decided not to come on again.
I took it out and it found 3 of top corners of the fins chipped.

I'm just trying to get this car squared away for the winter, I guess it's too much for me to do?

          Any ideas?

            Bearing... 120-130

More than likely the bearing in the fan motor is wearing out. With the fan out of the heater box assembly, switch it on and see if you can localize the sound.

I was instructed that you could renew the bearing by disassembling the motor and soaking the oillite bearing in oil or putting it in a pressure container with some oil. In your case, getting the plastic impeller off w/o wrecking it it the challenge to getting to the bearing.

Myself, I swapped my noisy blower with a spare. If you can get a blower motor and fan from an 1800, it is a drop-in replacement.

I've heard you can fit certain blower fans from other manufacturers in there. Notice that the mounting plate can be removed and that you could stick almost anything in there with a similar size/form-factor.

              Bearing... 120-130

              Yeah,
I think you're right. I took the fan out, again, and I turned it on. It spun nice, but after a while it made the same grinding noise and stopped. Sometime soon, I'm going to re-do it myself. Can't be too hard, right?

              Thanks.

                Bearing... 120-130

I did this once and the most difficult part is reassembling the motor without busting the plastic (I think) brush holders. You have to hold the brushes in against the spring pressure while inserting the wound stator (or rotor or whatever it's called) into the outer windings of the motor and insert the end into the bearing in the motor end piece. I don't know why I didn't remove the brushes before doing this - maybe that's all that's necessary.
