grounded lambda sond test connector, oops! 200 1985

Not long ago I was trying to adjust the idle speed on my 240 and happened to ground the pink wire which is the lambda test lead. Recently, I noticed a post by Mr. Stickbuilder saying that if the pink lead was grounded the O2 sensor would be destroyed. I tested the O2 sensor today and got a reading that ranged between .82 and .85 volts. Not much fluctuation occured at all as I tried to create various vacuum leaks. The car was nice and warm for the test also. Did I ruin the O2? Has anyone else done the same to their car?

I question that because the that pink wire goes directly to ECU 22. So I'd be more worried about that, than the O2 sensor.

Maybe Art Benstein will see this and set us (me) straight.

      Hi Bruce,

You have a sharp memory. It has been some time since I posted that. You're right, it is nowhere near the lambda sond electrically. It won't damage the ECU or the test point either, as 22 is protected by a resistor that will safely limit the current.

You feel stuck with your debt if you can't budge it.

Thank you all very much. What do you think about those readings for the O2 sensor?

You may not have killed it. There is always a danger of doing so when you ground the pink wire (according to Bentley). Maybe you got lucky.
