Swap '83 Hall Sensor for '88? 200 1983

I'm thinking that the hall sensor in my '83 240 DL (B23F) is on its way out. The ignition sometimes is spotty and the tach jumps around while I'm driving it. If so, I've got a known good sensor from an '88 240.

Is it possible to swap out the sensor, or must I swap out the whole distributor, or???

it's EASIER to change the dist. the rotors are different, so that may pose a problem in the future. but, if the 83 connector is the same as the 88 and you REALLY want to do it, then change the hall switch. good luck, chuck.
