Saturday, and again the car will only idle a couple seconds

As I promised, I'm updating everyone after replacing the fuel pressure relay. Checked the coil; good spark. Tried to start with and without the fuel return line hooked to the tank, no difference. With the return line hooked up to the tank, the fuel pump continued to run with the key off until I turned the ignition on/off again. This leads me to think its the fuel relay or more probably the CPU. This is the more likely scenario - the old style computer had a ground problem which affected fuel delivery. Bob's Import service added an additional relay to compensate. Not a clue on the specifics. Plan on calling them. Hope they remember after 5 yrs. Tomorrow I'm going to replace the fuel relay, but the best plan regardless is to eventually replace the CPU. Does anyone have an upgraded one to sell or have a suggestion on where to find one?

Thanks for the help! I'm on my way to a Halloween party. I'll check in later.

Howdy vacuumhead,

...the fuel pump continued to run with the key off until I turned the ignition on/off again.

That is interesting. The only time the pumps are supposed to run without ignition pulses present is very briefly when the key is turned to ON from OFF.

That is even more interesting.

Without knowing why the relay was added it is almost impossible to know whether or not it has anything to do with your current problem.

Assuming the added relay cannot supply voltage AND ground to the injectors, and given that the system is powering both the pumps and injectors when not commanded, I would replace the ECU.

THANKS, Just bought a CPU 951 off Ebay last night. Plan on Replacing the original fuel relay today and take a closer look at Bob Imports fix.
I don't intend this to anyway reflect badly on Bob's Imports. They saved my buns back in 2002 when I impulsively bought this 240. Not only did I not have to replace the CPU (the car dealer taped in a wire from the fuel pump to the fuel relay)They replaced the front shocks with Borgs, most of the exhaust system, 2 front control arm bushing as well as patching an extending rust hole along the outer sill and drivers side floor pan. This repair lasted till last year when I replaced this enlarged rusted section from a southern car. All these repairs came to just over $1,000
If you live in the Pittsburgh,Pa area I definitely would recommend them.

OOPS, it was the fuel pressure regulator I replaced, not the relay...
