Distrubuter cap cover? 700

I have a 1992 740 turbo with the Bosch system. I heard that the cap cover needs to come off as their has been a problem with traped moisture. Is this true?

I believe the original purpose is help dissipate the heat from the engine by allowing some air between the cap and cover. My 85 has had the cover since original, no issues with moisture.

I'm not clear about the purpose of the cover, perhaps to catch the pieces if the cap breaks.Only moisture problem I have seen is inside the cap when the weatherstrip above it falls off.

My mechanic keeps telling me I should take it off. I guess I could as he did with his 7 but I don't have any problems either. Just trying to figure out if this is just a crazy idea of if it's really a recall that Volvo did or whatever.

I have only heard of this from a friend who live near a beach and gets a lot of fog. The car sits out on the street and is about a '84 240.

Unless its missing or starting rough. Why are you asking?

They are not any more susceptible than any other cap.

There are holes in the bottom of the distributor on Bosch '91's that could allow something up but more out cause it can ventilate.

Anything could be plausible. I haven't ran it to a problem.
