I found this PDF a while ago that really helped me out with my Strombergs. Great illustrations and diagrams. Not sure where it came from but I posted it on my site:

Your broken part is the hot start valve. Has a spring loaded plunger in it, or should have. I'm not familiar with this type of SU but I'm sure you'll get some info here. This maybe why it's running rich.

The mixture is adjusted by turning a screw that is in a well on the lower corner
of the float bowl. It adjusts the height of the jet. Handle with CARE because it is fragile and you can easily twist it off.

Keep in mind turning the screw clockwise will richen the mixture, couterclockwise will lean it.

Too Rich eh? 140-160 1972

Sounds like you got it figured out.

Your car is familiar. I saved a couple posted photos of one from Canada that a young guy had just bought a few years back. It had a strange roof rack. Checking you posts points back to a 2005 thread and the same shots. Glad to see you've still got the car.

I've since learned the condition of your call is called a "Belgian Rust-flower" Something about the steel on certain 140s manufactured in Beligium - they used a poor quality steel that would rust out in the middle of the panel.

The car looks better, have you been doing any bodywork?

ur refering to my brake lines thread? 140-160 1972

for the record the car has been in the family since 1994 and has been on a few road trips :P i just kinda inherited :) shame about the rust on it.. it was in prity good shape in 2000 till a friend borrowed in for 3 yrs and did not look after it properly blah then i kinda took it but never had a space to work on it proper so its kinda just roted away on me
