Installing original radio in a 73ES 1800 1973

A couple of questions on the original radio. The service manuals do not detail anything on the radio.
I see a chrome radio bezel on Ebay and it is attracting a lot of bids. I see radios fairly often but this is the 1st Bezel I have seen.
I have an aftermarket radio in my 73. it does not appear that anything has been cut to fit the aftermarket one. I want to restore to original.

Do I need this Bezel?

On the 73, is the AM/FM the standard option? I believe all the radios where an option

If you go to the website http://volvo1800pictures.com/ and look at the "Documents" then "Handbooks to Download", near the very bottom you'll find a number of pdf files in a section labeled "Genuine Accessories - 1973"
In that sections you'll find one labeled "Radios". In that document you'll find pictures with the black faceplates.

The chrome faceplate you link to on ebay looks exactly line the one I have for a Bendix AM radio from a 1968 P1800S.

Here's a picture of the radio in my '73, which I am 99% certain has been there since delivery. As you can see, there is no bezel with this installation, and I suspect the same would be true of the radio on eBay. I've done no research, but I think the bezel on eBay is for an earlier 1800.

I notice a couple of differences between my radio and the one on eBay, but since they were all dealer-installed, that's not too surprising. Both units are obviously genuine Volvo pieces, and both AM/FM. However, mine is a stereo unit, but I don't know about the one on eBay... I don't see a right/left balance knob. Also I don't see the word "stereo" anywhere, and in the day, it was like a big deal... they typically advertised the feature on the face.

Thanks a lot for the picture and info.
I have looked at hundreds of interior shots trying to see the radio. My interior looks the same as yours so I imagine the bezel is not needed. I have an old manual that shows the bezel but i beleive you are right and it is for and older model.
You have the am/fm stereo mulitplex deluxe model radio part #279939-3. Cool. The one on ebay is there standard am/fm non stereo model. Nice catch I would never have noticed until i installed it.
      Thanks again.

Fitting a bezel/facia panel is probably just down to choice. It's just sandwiched between the nuts (ouch) and as you can see from Gary's car will hide the holes through the vinyl. The weight of the radio tends to drop the spindles to the bottom of the holes. Might also make the installation a bit more rigid if you haven't got a bracing bar at the back. Very little clearance between the radio and the wiper mechanism.
