Vent window lock glue? 140-160 1972

Last week on the way home, the vent window lock I bought from IPD just sort of fell off on the highway. It being a very busy time of day, I decided to leave it. I still have the originals, which weren't attached when I got the car. I'd like to put them back on. What kind of glue do people use? Any other tips?

Thank!

-Ben

Use the stuff sold as "rear view mirror adhesive".

Awesome, I've had this same problem on mine too. I'll try it this weekend and let you know if it works.

Good luck.. I've tried that among other things and never got one to stick on for more than a couple weeks... Maybe clamping it on with a C-clamp to be sure there is zero air between the window and latch as the glue sets up would help...

I've had my best luck with the rear view mirror adhesive.

After numerous failed attempts, I found that my problem seemed to be that I was using too much adhesive.
I switched to only using a tiny tiny drop and have found that works better than a schmere.

The first trick to making it stay on for more than two weeks is surface preparation on both the metal tab and glass. All the old glue must be removed (razor blade) without marring the surfaces. Never got a C-clamp to work and 25% do not set right the first time.

The second trick is to never shut and clamp down the vent window.

I have collected 3 of each side of the vent windows and simply replace them as the knobs fall off. Then when I get a production run together, I do 5 or six on one tube of rear view mirror glue. Been doing it and collecting extra vent windows for years

Yes, some people seem to be able to glue them and I've read of glass fish tank glue being used too. For the easy way out, and they work well too, a pair of
"Help 76994 Window Vent Lock" from Amazon for $12.95 won't break the bank.
There are others around even cheaper. Having a pair "just in case" isn't a bad idea either.
