Fuel Pump / Fuel Sending Unit Problem 700 1987

I've been trying to get my 1987 760 Turbo to start. It got harder and harder to start over a one week period until finally one morning it just wouldn't start at all. I am getting spark, so I checked to see if I'm getting any fuel at the rail, and I'm not. I changed the fuel filter, and jumped the fuel pump relay terminals to see if the fuel pump next to the filter kicked on (it does). Now I'm thinking it's the in-tank fuel pump. I removed the trunk access panel and discovered a giant mass of rust on the fuel sending unit of the gas tank. After soaking it with PB Blaster I cut the old clamps off and CAREFULLY pried the hoses off, but one of the metal tubes/nipples was so badly rusted it disintergrated in my hands. It's the smaller of the two hoses down near the 6 o'clock position (to the right of the big fuel inlet hose) when you look at the unit installed. Is this the fuel line, or a vapor line, or what? Now I have to buy an entire new/used unit and I'm not even sure if the pump is bad in that unit and if that was the original problem anyhow. How do I removed the three electrical wires that enter the sending unit? They attach at three white plastic circles. I need to pull the unit out but until I can disconnect those wires I'm afraid to go any further with it. How can I test that pump once I get the FSU out? Any suggestions on where I can find a used fuel sending unit? Thanks guys.

Fuel Pump / Fuel Sending Unit Problem 700 1987

I will check and see if I have a sending unit laying around. Also If you find one, make sure the pressure and return fittings are in good shape before you reinstall the unit. I once had one break as soon as I hooked up the lines and that was a pain.

Harness plugs in near antenna motor, unplug it and bring it alongside sending unit.Good used combined tank units are becoming hard to find.It must be from a turbo and have the same sending unit.Plug it in and test it before installing.

The main pump, alongside the filter, will run and not pump fuel.

The broken fitting is a vent line.
