Hesitation & engine light come on for a second when driving over large bumps 200 1990

My 90 240 Wagon (which I just bought from a single owner this summer @ 256K km's) hesitates (RPMs drop quite a bit) and the check engine light flashes whenever I go over severe bumps in transit. Seems to be a loose wire somewhere which wiggles loose for only a second and then reconnects after the bump. It seems to be causing the car to go into 'limp mode' for that split second, therefore dropping engine power? It seems to happen much worse when I have a large load in the back of the wagon. I also recently added new shocks (Boge Turbo Gas) and new heavy duty springs.

Also, about a month ago, the check engine light came on and stayed on but was the result of a loose connection to the knock sensor. I haven't had a chance to check it again, but could this problem be caused by anything else?

Thanks,
Cton.

You may want to check your crankcase position sensor wires its general overall condition.

Starts when the front wheels hit or the back?

Back wheels kind of would point you to the fuel pumps area. Front end could be anything from the contacts on the AMM to loose wiring on any number of sensors.

Not a lot of help I know,

    Good Luck,

    Paul

Its somewhat hard to tell if its front or back because it happens very quickly at high speed over very jarring bumps... I think its the rear actually, but I'll start checking all the sensor leads to see if anything comes up. Good call on the fuel pump too. I'll check it as well. Any suggestions are better than none! Its nice sometimes just to know theres good folks out there taking the time to respond to my complaints. Thanks!

I've heard that a faulty ignition switch could do that also. The result of many years of heavy keychains dangling from the switch.

Try jiggling the key when it is running and see if it happens.

I had a very similar problem. Turned out to be strain on the AMM harness was causing some of the contacts to short. Pulled the boot off the connector and made sure there was good seperation between the wire contacts. Good luck.

Thanks guys... sounds like I have a lot of wiggle testing to do! I'll find it and then repost once its fixed.
