Bad brake master cylinder? 700

I just replaced a master cylinder a few months ago and
all was fine until today, when suddenly a spongey brake pedal.

It seems like a Master cylinder problem, more diagnosis when it stops
raining.
I don't have a lot of faith in the rebuilt brake cylinder since
when bench bleeding, only short strokes of the piston would be free
of air in two of the circuits.
I read on the board that some people stay away from rebuilt cylinders.

Is that right or are there people around that can rebuild the volvo M/C
and install stainless sleeves and do a good job?

My rebuilt M/C has a lifetime warranty, but maybe I should try for a refund if the quality is so bad?

comments?

Bill

i've always used new with master cyls. seems the euro-spec metal reacts differently than the us made stuff. sold rebuilt masters for years for us cars in the 70s and 80s. the only builder that had a decent rebuild for the euro stuff went out of business years ago. a lifetime warranty, also. if yours was sleeved, i'm impressed. hadn't seen that in a long time. if yours was sleeved, it's hard to believe there's a problem, unless the sleeve is too big for the piston or the seals were too small for the new sleeve or were junk to begin with. or, the outer seal of the piston is rolling in the bore and sucking air as the pedal comes back up. again, junk.

wanna avoid changing the master? change the fluid every 2 years. at the dealer in the 80's, we stocked about 15 masters for the 240s. about 85, volvo changed their rust warranty and said change the fluid. we changed the fluid and the later cars never seemed to need masters. done it with my cars over the years and customer's cars, also. been a long time since i've put a master on any thing i've serviced over the years, volvo, bmw or benz. good luck, chuck.

      Hi Chuck,

I'm not sure if there's a sleeve or what...I don't understand how they
get four ports with one piston? I'll look when I get the M/C out of the car.
I'm guessing that they just ran a hone into it and replaced the seals, and the deep part of the bore is pitted and junk.

Yes I finally realize about flushing old brake fluid.
I'll try to get a refund with the crappy rebuilt stuff
and get a new M/C. What brand do I want?

      Thanks, Bill
