double check on wires to back of cluster 200

today i found a large tach and small clock from an 88 sedan that just arrived in my nearby pick and pull. i wanted to swap it into the cluster in my wagon (1992).

after removing my cluster and the clock in my cluster and swapping the tach for the clock i re connected everything back up. the wiring harness off the small plugged right into the 3 prongs on the top of the tach and the red/white wire i never had use for before plugged into one of the 2 male spade connectors marked 1 in plastic on the base of the tach.

so far so good. i reconnected all the other wires except 1. the one i think powers the old clock.

after connecting the battery and starting up the car all works as it should. the tach, the small clock, the lights for night drving, speedo, idiot lights etc.

i want to make sure i have not made an error.

there is a single wire brown/yellow or something like that with female spade connector which plugged into a single male spade at The base of the cluster just under old the clock. I DID NOT RECONNECT THIS WIRE.

was i correct in thinking this powers the old clock? and is no longer needed?

Are you sure the tach red white wire went onto one of the double male spade lugs?

I did this a couple of weeks ago, and as I recall, the red/white wire went into a single spade lug on the back fo the tach, and the other fat wire, which is for the cruise control, plugs into one piece of a double spade lug between the speedo and the fuel gauge/temp guage. The other lug in that fitting is for the shift indicator for a manual trans.

Some tachs have one spade while others have two. The tachs changed 3 times ( I think ) over the years, the redlines moved, the white boxes moved and duplicated, and the finishes went from satin to matte. Not sure which years had what though...

If I remember correctly, the clock does not get its power from a wire of any color, instead it gets it from where it sits on the back of the cluster. You didn't mention if your 240 was automatic, make sure your OD light works. If the OD arrow light checks out, then that wire might go to the engine service light, not to be confused with the check engine light.

    Good luck,

    Justin

But the clock has to get power from somewhere, ultimately. This happens via the green wire to the #9 socket in the round connector (31 on the wiring digram) that connects to the printed circuit board.

thanks i will look at that.
it is automatic and the od light does go on and off with this wire unconnected.
i did not check to see if the service light illuminates at startup with this wire detached.
