Wiper Motor Removal 120-130

Hello all.

My '66 122 wiper motor is dead (The wires inside it are brittle and broken). I've search the archives but could not find any help on this - how do you remove the wipre motor? The retaining nuts are behind the wipre arm mounting plate (as best as I can figure). What size are nuts/bolts? Any tips/tricks to removing that rascal?

Thanks in advance!

Wiper Motor Removal 120-130

Hello,

It is not that hard as long as there is not an A/C evaporator in your way.

A couple of tips.

I sometimes remove the ashtry assembly for access to 1 of the bolt/screw.

Make sure to recover and reuse the thin flat washers that sits on top of the wiper post shafts. They sometimes fall off as you are removing the wiper assembly. They can fall inside the car or sometimes they fall off inside the space between the cowl and the firewall. If they fall of inside the cowl area, you can retrieve them with a magnet.

You should also get a use new foam inner seals for the wiper arm shafts as this will be the only good time to replace them. The outers you can easily replace at a later date. I carry both the inner foams gaskets and the outer rubber seals for the posts if you need them.

Disconnect the battery. Remove the wiper arms and then the post retaining nuts from on top of the cowl. From under the dash disconnect the wires (taking notes)and the screws that hold the assembly in place. Pull the assmembly down and out, put it on a bench and deal with the motor like a gentleman. I may have a complete unit stashed -- cheap if you need it.

I've been considering your offer of a spare unit. My spare unit is installed in a rusty old '68 parts car. After crawling around underneath the dash, I'm not sure it's in any better shape than the one I need to replace.

How much would you want for your complete unit and shipping?
What payment method would you prefer?

Thanks!

I dug out the wiper assembly only to find it is from a 140 series--sorry if I got your hopes up.

RepairmanJack,

If it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate you checking on that wiper assembly you offered. I don't drive my '66 P130 in the rain, but she is inspected and tagged to drive without restrictions. Inspection is due in two months. Between that an restoring my "other" '66 P130, that'll keep me busy.

I'll check it this weekend 120-130

I'll take 'er off the wall and see how it acts. My guess is that it's from a mid-60s model (it came with all the spares from my 220).

You might need to keep after me as I had a bad habit of forgetting about things like this....

Hello Repairman.

Just checking in to see if we have a match on that wiper motor and what kind of condition it is in.

Many thanks!

I've taken it down and looked at it, but have been unable to test it. I've no reason to think it does not work. It is missing one of the spindle bits where the wiper fits.

Seriously, though send me an e-mail off list repairmanjack # sbcglobal , net

Thank you, I've got an extra wiper motor (from a parts car). Thanks for the info. I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull the entire assembly!

I think you have to take out the whole assembly, then it is fairly easy to change
the motor. Be ready for a backache/stiff neck. The biggest deal is getting the
other stuff outta the way!
