Old Round Headlight and Mirror Conversion 81-85 200

Does anyone know if the older 4 light round headlights and chrome mirrors fit on 81-85 models with the rectangle 4 light system? Some guy on ebay has a set and I just wanted to know if its really possible to do. Thank You!

I converted the other way ie. '80 4 rounds to '81 4 rectangles no problem.

The reason? The round headlight metal rusted out faster than the surrounding volvo. Different manufacturer and poorer quality? Volvo wanted $$$ to replace (over $500). So I transferred rectangles from a parts car.

I've got chrome mirrors on my '93, the holes for mounting apparently never changed. They will work fine.

The hassle of adjusting doesn't even bother me, since before, I had power mirrors with bad motors.

Okay, cool, just wanted to make sure that the older round 4 light system will replace the 4 light rectangle system. The mirrors seem like a cool bonus. Thanks

Hey, why not read the Volvo 240 headlight FAQ?

Before my 1979 245DL went off to Volvo Valhalla, I grabbed some parts, including the complete 4-round headlight set-up. Mounting plate, bucket with bulbs and wiring, chrome hold-downs, and surrounds. They are used, not perfect and not cleaned up, but I would like to get them into the hands of an owner who knows how to put them to good use. If you are interested I will make you a good price.

No chrome mirrors. As I recall, my 1975 245DL had them, and opening the window to adjust them was a minor PITA. Then came the karate-chop in-cabin adjusters, which I installed and tossed the old ones. I have a few of them, I think. The newer in-cabin knob-adjuster types are, IMHO, the best but for power mirrors. I may have a pair of tem on a part car, not sure.

I am in Houston, Texas. If you are anywhere near, a pick-up is preferred.

    Regards,

    Bob

Yes, it can be done fairly easily. I did it some 12 years ago on my '80 GLE V8 (see profile pic below). I think it will work on the '85, since the major bodywork didn't change until '86.

OOPs -- you want to do the 4 rounds, not the 7" ones I was thinking of. The 4 rounds should be no problem.
