My own odometer problems 200

Mine is a '93 244 with +/- 226,000 miles on it. I replaced the odometer gears a few months back when the odo stopped working. Worked great for a while. But over the past couple of weeks, it seemed to stop intermittently. The speedo works just fine. The problem is getting worse.

I pulled the cluster, removed the speedo and reset/checked the gears, checked connections, etc. Still have this problem. I have cleaned the connection on the back of the speedo, as well. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Trey

I have read on this board that a lot of times the plastic tooth/teeth that broke off in the first place like to hang around and haunt you by getting jammed in the gears.

Thanks Tony!

My Volvo is the first car I have ever owned that I don't get super mad at when something goes wrong, I think this community has something to do with it. : )

I really have learned so much here.

Justin

I hadn't thought about that Justin. I'll put that on my list for this weekend.

In my case that's exactly what I found, a loose single tooth from a broken small gear, in the mechanism. I almost bypassed and dropped in a different gear except that the lube had held it to the large gear. A lot of these problems are simple but not simply apparent.

I appreciate the info. I'll pull the cluster out this weekend and see if I can't locate the errant tooth. I'll let you know what I find out.
