'92 740 W/Regina Single Fuel Pump 700

Good Evening Folks;
My daughter's 740 wagon needs a new fuel pump. It is a Regina car with a single in tank pump. My local Advance Auto parts sold me a Master Pump E3240. It is suppose to cross with a Carter P74006. I installed the pump and the car will not start. It will fire but not keep running. I have checked the FAQ's and other on-line sources an have found a Master E8279 that according to the FAQ's has more line pressure. Also has anybody found any information on that little oval unit that mounts just above the pump between the metal line and the pump itself?

Regards and thanks;
Mike Coleman

I'm told that the little oval part is a damper to absorb pump pulsations and deliver a smoother fuel flow.

When I look up your car's info at Advance Auto it shows two choices - Master 8279 or Carter 74006. The 3240 is used in a lot of late 80's-early 90's GM cars, which is "kind of" what the Regina system is.

When my 90 740 Regina pump went out, I replaced it and it didn't want to run after about a minute. I pulled it apart and found that I hadn't locked the pump into its bracket very well and the fuel pressure sort of blew the pump downward off of the line. If you hear the pump run for a couple seconds when you first turn the ignition on, yet you don't get good pressure up at the injector rail, you may have the same sort of thing going on.

If you pull it apart and don't see anything wrong, then maybe you DO need to take it back to Advance and tell them to give you the correct one.
