It's raining inside the car? 700

Hey guys,
During the 'Noah's Ark" type rain we've been experiencing here in the Berkshires lately, the sunroof in my beloved '88 745 has sprung quite a leak. I've done all my research on the FAQ's, and feel prepared to tackle replacing the seals and clearing the drains. The sunroof wasn't working anyway, maybe I'll actually fix it along the way.
Anyhow, the only thing missing, I can't find anyone who stocks the sunroof seals for a 740. I've tried all the usual places, Eeuroparts, FCP Groton, and even VOLVOworld, no one has them. I found 240 seals, but no 740 seals.
Anyone know where i can get them?

Thanks,
Chris

The sunroof seals have apparently been discontinued by Volvo and nobody has yet to find an acceptable aftermarket replacement. It may be possible to rebuild them in some way by adding material to the existing seal. If you figure out a way, let us know.

I purchased a seal this past May for the sunroof of my '90 760 GLT from Tasca Volvo. Part number is #1334904 for $44.00. If we're on the same page, this "seal" surrounds the sunroof's "moving top" for lack of a better description. In reality, this seal is not intended to prevent water from entering, but in my opinion, it really slows the water from entering. It has a fiber bristle exterior, is rather stiff and snuggly fits the around the edge of the moving top. To install the seal, you will have to separate the top from the slide mechanism first. Then remove the old seal and fit on the new replacement. There is enough of the seal length that the end will have to be trimmed to length as it comes around the top's circumference to mate with the opposite end of the seal. Most people will advise you to inspect the drain lines from the sunroof to make sure they are clear of debris.

I have received good service, prices and shipping, for genuine Volvo parts, from Borton Volvo in Minneapolis.

Never can get their web site to work, so I call Jon at 1-800-328-7114.

Meanwhile, if your sunroof setup is similar to that on my 1997 965, you might be getting water on the top side of the headliner. Water will damage it.

Stop the leak. Get out the duct tape, or use a large piece of plastic sheeting and lots of magnets. When it's not in use, store in the the trunk.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

    Hey Chris,

Sorry to hear about your inclement weather. Another good place to get OE Volvo parts is Tasca Volvo (www.tascavolvoparts.com). They have employee pricing for everyone and also ship to your door w/o tax if you are outside of MA. I have bought quite a few things from them. Great place.

    Regards, Jon 'Uncle Olaf'

Something like that, you may want to bite the bullet and try dealer. I have posted this before.

St. Louis Volvo, Richard in parts dept. 800-844-9502. Very little markup, shipping reasonable, no tax out of state. If you absolutely have to go geninue Volvo. Tell him you got his name on the brickboard. I have no affilliation with this dealership..
