speedometer/odometer swap questions--compatibility and adjustment 200 1991

since my 1991 245's speedo needle likes to stick to its favorite places rather than showing the actual speed, i got another k9800 from an earlier car ('86 245 manual) as replacement. my questions are:

1) are k9800's the same from '86 to '91? manual vs auto?
2) how do i adjust the odometer reading?

thanks for your help.

There were a few rounds of change between 86 and 91 including the service light lever mechanism. I am not sure it will work for you. No auto manual difference, but the year issue could be bad. The speedo electronics look different when you have them side by side. Mileage adjustment involves pushing the axle pin free and gently lifting the assembly free of the lower gears. You need patience to line up all the numbers and gears. If you claim to have surpassed Irv Gordon in mileage on your vehicle, you will be apprehended for adding too many miles!

thanks for your help rhaire. i lucked out--the speedo was actually a '88. it dropped in and worked fine. now i just need to adjust the odometer reading and swap the odometer gear over. would you elaborate a bit more on how to adjust odometer? i'd hate to jump from 117k to 200k overnight. thanks.
