pink labelled 561 ECU from car with manual transmission will it fit on an automatic transmission car 200 1990

Yesteday Iwnt to th epick and pull they had a special all tou can carry for $80
I have two 1990 carsùù: a 245 with auto trans which runs rich and a 5 speed 244.

I picked up an ECU from a 1990 with the 5 speed set up. I presume it will plug in my 244. Will it also fit on my 245 automatic?. I read on other post that the pink labelled 561 are reliable as opposed to the white labelled one that is why I picked it up.

Sorry for the misspeling . Have the 561 ECU been installed in 240s after the 1990 model year in North America and when have the white labelled one or the 941 become the norm ?
If not in a 240 on what cars should I hunt for a reliable spare ecu suitable for my 1990 240 s

      hello
89-93 240 and 89 740 is the cars to look in for the white label 951, or even the white label 561 which would be your second choice.
other white labels will work if you cant find the correct one.
95% of the cars i listed have the white label ecus.
      good luck
      Mike

Unless the car was originally sold in California, and has EGR, in which case the ECUs are different, and some of those (the 556) have as bad a reputation as the pink label 561.

          hello.
yes this is true. also the LH 3.1 would have a different ecu going by memory either a 971 or 972.
          thanks for the info.

Mustard colocred 556 were prone to failure also. There are white label 556 as well as 933 that do work fine in non EGR 240's, I have run them in mine. All the white label ECU's are the updated versions. Dan

Yes it will work fine but the pink label 561 is the one that fails, the white label was the updated replacement. Dan

Since we're posting about ECUs colors, why does my '88 240/M47 have a gold label with the last three numbers 554? Should I go get a white one? In fact I had my hands on one two weeks ago, and left it behind. And again, will any ECU, white, pink, gold, whatever, as long as the plug matches up, fit my '88?

The foregoing discussion applies only to LH2.4. Your '88 is LH2.2 and is just fine the way it is.
