96 960 ABS Light? 900 1996

The ABS light came on our 96 960 last night, on my 940s there is a way to pull codes, is there a way to pull them besides the OBDII port on the 960s? If not, were should I look to fix this?
thanks, Richard

generally on the 940 or 960 2 things cause the light come on and stay on.

a blown safety fuse on the abs unit itself or near it(under the seat i think or behind the knee bolsters depending on model) or a dirty abs front wheel sensor.

the first thing i would do is put the front wheels up a bit so you have easier access tot he 5mm hex bolt keeping the front sensors in place and take them out of their slot. then carefully clean then and reinstall. if they remove as they should without drama the whole thing will take 30 minutes. (and it is good preventative work)

restart the car and see if the light remains on. it is possible the tone ring in back of the rotor on each front wheeel is dirty as well but in my experience the sensor is ussally what causes this light to activate.

the abs system for 940,960,240 the limit of my direct knowledge is quite robust and seldom fails

if you have a multimeter you can unclip after the neg on the battery is removed the harness from each wheel sensor clip under the hood and check for continuity. each sensor should show just a small ohm reading. obviously if no ohm reading shows up you have found your trouble. in any event i would still remove and clean them as well before declaring them bad or good.
