Bumper removal for fender change 900

I am ready to swap on a new front fender. Working in the driveway with no hoist, is it easier to somehow get the bumper skin off to get at the two hidden bolts, or pull the whole bumper off by unbolting the two main supports?

Good advice. I'm going to do this soon. The previous owner replaced the fender after it was backed into. He was told that a 740 fender would fit, it fit, but the cut-out for the parking/signal lens does not go back as far. So the headlight assy was not a flush fit like the other side. I trimmed the cut-out enough for it to be flush again. Have located a correct fender that is already the right color. Haven't traveled yet to remove. The 740 fender had to be painted black & looks good for now.

Before doing any of that, check to see if the bumper skin is all one piece. I'm not sure about the 900, but on the original 700, the side panels are separate and come off just behind the "corrugated" crush area. Look for 3 nuts down low on the inside of the fender below the battery or air cleaner, down by where the windshield washer reservoir is.

It's one piece, but I think there is some sort of clip under there that uses those same three bolts the 740 has. I'll plan on removing them from inside, just like on a 740.

Thanks

You don't need to unbolt at the sides. Just unbolt the three nuts attaching the bumper to the front shocks. Then pull the bumper straight out. It slides off the side brackets. In fact, the supports screw on from the outside so you can't unbolt until you remove the bumper.
