installing a radio from a 92 940 to a 92 740 700

The above mentioned car is missing the radio. A freind of mine gave me the old streo that came stock on her 92 940. She does not have the code, but she gave me the vin number for her car. Should I be able to call the dealor to get the code hopefully? Also the 7 had a aftermarket radio installed before, so is there going to be issues with the amp if I try to install the stock radio back in? Finally, is this worth my time to try to install this or should I just try to find a good deal on a good used Nakamitchi? If, I'm going to have issues with the amp, that might be the way that I go. I just prefer the look of the stock radio.

So, I never had the original stereo for my 740, so I don't know which model it was. I will stop by the dealor today and see if they can tell me anything. I think that something was done to the amp, when someone put in the aftermarket stereo that is no longer there, so I was wondering what that was and what I would have to do to make it work like should.

If you have the VIN, the dealer should be able to hook you up with the code for free.

Are the stereos the same model number?

I've had to find a working radio from a pick and pull for my 760. As the previous post questioned, are the model numbers the same? Also, I would add, do the wires match from the radio to the car. As you have likely seen already, their is a male/female plug. Also, I ran into issues about whether the antenna would go up/down when the radio was turned on. As I remember it, the wiring match that I noted above was key.

Hey, thanks it worked. She is really sweet and went to the dealor on her lunch brake and then gave me the code. I aussume the models were the same. It actually looks just like the one that I had in my 1990 745 but I don't recall it haveing a code feature nor a CD button. Anyway, I happy with how it sounds, it looks good, and it will be perfect once I find the CD changer that goes with it.
