960 Trans. cooler leak 900 1996

I have a 96 960 that I had to put a new radiator in and I can not get the lower trans. cooler line to seal. It is constantly weeping. I have taken it off a few times to try and get it to seal and have been unsucessful. I checked the end and it looks good and it is not cross threaded. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I had this same problem after replacing my radiator. I used 2 wraps of teflon tape and it sealed it right up, no problems in 4 months.

Hope this helps.

I find with those connections, if the pipe is not perfectly straight in the fitting it will leak/weap. All I can say is loosen it again, and loosen any clips holding the pipe and try to wiggle it as you tighten the nut. That has worked for me but has also taken some patience.

Should I also loosen the radiator? Is an external cooler better. Thanks for the reply. I will try it this week and report back

It shouldn't be necessary to loosen the radiator, but it might help align things to have it loose, it's really up to you. I do believe an external cooler is better because it removes the chance of coolant and atf mixing which will destroy these transmissions.

Well I thought I fixed it. Unfortunately it is still leaking. Any other thoughts. I tried to take off all the clips and move it side to side as I was taightening it up.

Did you try the teflon plumber's tape? I had to break my (good) seal a while ago to do a flush... and I removed the old, then applied some more when I was done. Worked like a charm, again. The exposed part of the tape on the radiator thread is still dry and white.
