91 740 Turbo Mysterious O/D Trouble 700

It's not the relay. I replaced the relay 6 months ago, and the O/D was fine. All of a suddem, the car will not shift into the O/D gear at highway speed. I tried clicking the O/D switch, and although the shift-up light comes goes on and off every time I click the button on the shifter, there is no response by the tranny. Then the other day, while driving around 60MPH it mysteriously shifted into the O/D gear, and engine revs went down from 3100 - 2500 (normal O/D range). The kickdown cable seems okay, but hard to judge.

It is probably the overdrive solenoid in the transmission. I had one fail earlier this year. A used solenoid made it shift fine into overdrive.

Thanks for the thought. The minute I hit the post button, I looked at a parts web-site, and there was a solenoid for $150.00. I am assuming that the solenoid is the problem as well.

It would be a good idea to check if the circuit is delivering 12v to the solenoid when you activate the relay. There could be a wiring problem that would be cheap fix rather than a bad solenoid.
