New R-sport seat covers! Pictures! 200 1987

Hi;
It's been a while since my last post. Rest assured though, my Sven-Göran is doing fine. The odometer will soon pass 170,000 km (105,000 miles) so the running-in will soon be done.

Anyway, today I treated the car with brand new seat covers. The Artex company that made the original R-sport seat covers for Volvo back in the day does still have an amount of fabric left. Through a Swedish Volvo friend, who had to go through a Volvo dealer to get to the seat cover manufacturer I ordered a set of front and rear covers, front and rear headrests included.

I won't tell you how much I paid, on the off-chance that the wife might be reading this post. She did admit that they look great though. With the very pronounced side-padding they also offer great comfort, particularly when doing inspired driving on winding roads.

A few shots:

The pillow deserves a comment:
This was very, very generously sent me out of the blue a couple of years ago from fellow Brickboarder Cory C. of Alder Creek. As he had read on my web site that my parents' first car was an East German Wartburg, he felt that this pillow which he had picked up on a visit to Norway, depicting a Wartburg of that vintage, belonged with me. It has since proudly had its place in the back seat.

Regards,
Erling.

    Thanks, everybody - 200 1987

    - for your kind comments.

As for getting these, anyone can now place an order at any Swedish Volvo dealer. (So it's a bit easier now, they used to accept orders on these from companies only.) The Volvo dealer will in turn forward the order to the Artex company. Artex has still a few color options for these, at least blue and grey. Don't tell the wife, Volvo charged me 3,500 SEK for front and back seat and front and back headrests. They will deduct the sales tax for export (20 pct?) and add the shipping costs. Hope this helps a bit.

    Regards,
    Erling.

    Erling:

I have been resding your posts for many years. I am impressed by the dedication and effort you have given to your "best partner" Sven Goran. Of couse your wife is #1! The R-Sport covers are fantastic.

Is it possible that the manufacturer, Artex, can use you as an agent to solicit BrickBoard members for orders and work through you as the BB agent for purchase. I think the volume may be significant if the price was OK. I wonder with the US dollor at record lows to the Euro what the effect is?

Many of us, like you are attempting to keep our 24x friends for as long as we can. In my opinion the 24x was and still reamins the most spacious, comfortable, and long lasting vehicle on the road.

Thanks for your continued updates and pics.

    Best regards,

    Allan

    E-
I am jealous. And I have the same in the flatnose, though they are original, still clean and brilliant blue, not as perfect as yours. But new, must be wonderful!

    Hi Erling,

You really know how to treat a Sven-Goran.

Looks fantastic and well worth the $$. Fine job on the headrests as well. Did you use blue zip ties?

    Marty
