volvo 240 engine stop running and elec in Cabin 200

The story. I was driving and stoped to a red light. Car stalled (which has never happen before). I started the car and it stalled again. I started the car up a third time and pulled it ofto the side of the road check wires and seem to be ok. I could smell a strong order (elec) in the cabin and thought the car was going to burn then it went away. Have not checked out to see if I have spark (no help at the moment) also look at fuses ok. Any idea? were should I start? Thanks in advance.

Denis

The car started and ran the third time and you drove it home?

Or is it dead at the moment?

I'd check for water in the Fuel Pump Relay. that could cause a intermitent start/stall and could also short and smell electrical.

What year is this? If 1981-1987 I'd start by checking the condition of the fuel injection wiring harness.

Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Pull off the vacuum hose and see if you smell or see any gas. You should not, if you do change it.

Check your Fuel Pump Relay, that can go intermittent. Water can leak into it and cause all sorts of problems. The do get warm, but not hot by the way.

Have you done any work inside the car recently? That might be a good place to look also.

Regards,

Paul
