Rookie camshaft\timing gear question 140-160

Hello,

I replaced the camshaft in my 1970 142. Everything looks good except the timing marks don't line up on the two gears. I only removed the big "wooden" timing gear. To line up the gear timing marks, should I rotate the new camshaft by hand or rotate the small metal gear before re-installing the big timing gear? Or perhaps something else? I don't know if it matters, but I have not removed or disturbed the dizzy. The repair manual I have showed disassembly of the whole engine and not just replacement of the camshaft. I guess I could figure it out on my own though experimentation, but I've never been this deep in any engine and certainly don't want to screw things up with newbie mistakes. Any help would be appreciated.

You can move either one I would have aligned them before I took the gear off,so when you renew the old gear it slides on the right place. Dick
