'84 245 Turbo Engine Almost Dies When Throttle Is Closed 200

I'm working on an '84 245 turbo with the M46 transmission. When one drives it and lets off of the gas as when preparing to stop or shift gears, the rpm's drop way down and then the tach can be seen to "bounce" back up and it indicates the correct 900 rpm. I've checked for vacuum leaks, etc. and the constant idle system was also checked/set.

Any ideas what would be causing it? Sometimes, the engine will die when this happens at the most inconvenient times. I sort of suspect a dirty/non-functioning air motor, but I'm not an expert by any means.

Thanks!

Once you repair leaks and clean, you must set base idle and mixture to run properly in a k-jet. Refer to Bentley for the sequence, which is almost correct as laid out.

My son's 83 244Ti likes to do this when the throttle body gets dirty. A little TB cleaner sprayed on the throttle plate, TB bore and thru the vacuum line nipples will clear it up every time.

Those are the exact symptoms of my three biggest vacuum leaks. The first was a split molded hose from the Idle Air Motor. The second was the hose between the Breather Box and the Flame Trap. The third was a loose intercooler hose after an engine swap (this one also featured bogging during boost and backfiring afterward). The first two were missed during the initial check for leaks.
