Hello
what highway/city gas mileage are you getting with a 89 740 with LH 2.4 with auto tranny and lockup tranny, also highway speed that gets your mileage.

    My newly aquired 1988 740 wagon with AW70L gets about 19mpg around town and about 26mpg at speed(average 65mph)on highway.

    ' 88 740GLE auto wagon nearly 167,000 and ' 87 240DL auto sedan nearly 125,000

    My '87 GLE, which has a different LH (I think?), gets 19/24 or so. It needs a tune up. :)

    Always do 55 for best mileage - but I do the speed limit (usually 65) in bad traffic.

      Just for comparison, I have had about 28 mpg from the diesel 85 740 wagon with the ZF tranny. I drive hard, 80-85 mph whenever I can.

      The same car after I changed the tranny to M46 w/ o/d gets about 30. It may get more if I put in the taller rear axle ratio its supposed to have but the acceleration will probably be less fun and sporty. At 80 the engine is turning about 3600 rpm
